Founded on a vision by Karolina and Qian, WeDoSolar emerged from a single, powerful question:

In 2021, Europe witnessed a surge in private solar installations, driven by the climate crisis and an energy crisis exacerbated by the war in Ukraine. With electricity costs soaring, people sought ways to secure their energy future. However, urban dwellers found themselves at a disadvantage, with few options to harness solar energy.

Determined to bridge this gap, we embarked on a mission to introduce solar energy to the balconies of our cities, enabling urban residents to tap into renewable energy. Our first product designs quickly garnered global attention, and our journey to promote balcony solar across Europe began.

Following the launch of our first batch of products, we received multiple green tech awards and recognitions, including the Make It Matter Award, the Solar Impulse Foundation Label, and support from BCG and Amazon Sustainability accelerators program, marking our success in the green technology space.

By February 2022, the debut production of first balcony solar sets sold out within weeks, with demand spanning across Europe. This success, however, was just the beginning.
As we navigated through our journey, we recognized that DIY solar had potential beyond balcony installations. New legislations across Europe began to favor DIY solar systems, encouraging the shift towards small-scale, self-sufficient solar solutions.
